About us

The current Anesthesiology Service has its origin in the 50s of the last century in the University Clinical Hospital, dependent on the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Valencia, Spain. After the integration of university hospitals in the Social Security in the early 70s, the Anesthesiology Service, already well established, opened in 1975 the postoperative resuscitation unit, which has achieved such prestige later.
In 2001, the development of the treatment units of acute and chronic pain began, still in expansion. But it is only since 2005 with the publication of the regulations of the Generalitat (public administration of regional health) that organizes the Departments of Health of Valencia, when the Hospital Malvarrosa is attached as complementary to the University Clinical Hospital. From then until the present time it is a unique Service of Anesthesiology integrated with both centers which is assigned to the Department of Health of Valencia Clinico-Malvarrosa.
It is, by far, the most numerous service of all those that the Department possesses, with more tan 40 specialists and 20 resident doctors in training who constitute the main asset of our Service of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Therapy of Pain (SARTD, acronym in Spanish) .
It is a pride for me to lead this group of professionals and to present on this page our Service that today can be considered, at all levels, one of the best Anesthesiology Services in Europe.
